ABBA GOES TO 4 CITIES STARTING APRIL 18

Representatives of Abba are slated to recruit in 4 different cities just after the Holy Week.  The 4-city event is sponsored by Smart Communications Inc. and is entitled “Galing Pinoy Job and Fun Fair 2009”.   

The first city to be visited is Dagupan on April 18, followed by Batangas  on April 25, San Fernando in Pampanga on May 30, and Cavite City on June 12. The event, organized by Excite Inc. will be attended by other recruitment agencies.

MAJOR HOSPITALS IN JEDDAH TO VISIT ABBA IN APRIL

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah, will visit Abba starting April 24 to recruit for nurses and other allied medical positions. The 300-bed facility will try to fill vacancies for at least 100 positions. A listing of the vacancies is shown here.

KFSHRC is a government - owned facility that has won many international awards and distinction. The visiting team for their April visit will be composed of 4 officers of the Hospital. There are no placement fees; the Hospitals will pay a special bonus for those who will pass the interview.

EB PROCESSING MOVES AGAIN, BUT STILL SLOWLY

Processing for U.S bound - nurses inches up again, in small steps. The U.S Department's Visa Bulletin of November 2008 annouced that starting December 01, 2008, processing will begin for those whose papers have priority date of May 2005 or earlier.

This is the second consecutive month of a noted movement in the EB 3 processing. In the Visa Bulletin of October 2008, it was annouced that processing of papers will initiated for those with priority dates of May 01, 2005 or earlier.

SHEIK KHALIFA MEDICAL CITY TO RECRUIT MORE NURSES

The Sheik Khalifa Medical Center of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E will visit Abba this February to select Filipino Nurses who will staff their new units in this 500-bed facility.

SKMC, managed by the Cleveland Clinic of the United States, will send a six-man recruiting team in Manila to personally interview candidates. To qualify, the nurses nust have a minimum of 2 years post licensure and solid experience in ICU, RR, (PACU) and Telemetry with extensive long term ventilator monitoring experience in a tertairy hospital.

SKMC is one of the top-paying hospitals in the Middle East. It provides housing allowance, and family status to the nurses. This means that the nurse can bring along his/her spouse and children in the country, and enjoy the benefits of subsidized education for trhe children.

Advertisement for SKMC appeared on the February 8 issue of Classified Ads Section of the Sunday Bulletin. Applications are now being accepted and preliminary interviews ongoing. Abba is the longest-staying agency of SKMC.

VINTAGE HOSTS DECEMBER PARTY FOR U.S BOUND NURSES

Vintage Health Resources (VHR) a nurse-contracting company based in Memphis, Tennessee will host a cocktail party for all their in-porcess nurse-candidates on December 11. The party, by niw an annual tradition for VHR, will be held at the Linden Hotel at the Ortigas Center.

attending the party are the officers of VHR namely Tom Nichols, Bob Zimmerman, and Karen Muchmore. They will talk about the status of the Visa Retrogression, and will answer questions from the in-porcess candidates, now numbering to more than 200 nurses. CAMBRIDGE CONCLUDES RECRUITMENT DRIVE

Cambridge Health Care System, a nurse contracting and recruitment company based in Maryland, U.S.A., has successfully completed its recruitment drive with Abba. A total of 96 nurses and 12 Physical Therapist were interviewed by Cambridge over a 3-day period. Representatives of the company will return to Manila early next year to recruit additional workers.

Cambridge has client-hospitals in New York, Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Texas, and Maryland. Some of the hospitals are non-capped facilities, enabling Cambridge to provide priority visa processing for its candidates.

PNA CELEBRATES 86TH ANNIVERSSARY

The organization for Filipino nurses, the PNA (Philippine Nurses Association) will hold its 86th foundation anniversarywith a weeklong celebration and national annual convention, starting October 21 at the Manila Hotel.

The annual convention will have as its theme "Nurses": Delivering, Serving, Leading Primary Health Care."

PROCESSING FOR EB-3 VISA MOVES, BUT SLOWLY

Retrogression is till ongoing but for a chosen few, their EB - 3 application will now move to another level in the processing.

The US Department thru its Visa Bulletin of October 2008 will now begin the processing of the papers for those whose priority date falls on January 01, 2005 and earlier. This will enable a few nudred nurses to continue with the packet 3 processing up to release of their immigrant visa.

BIG HOSPITALS IN RIYADH BOOSTS OFFER TO NURSES, OTHERS

The Security Forces Hospital has recently annouced increased salaries, allowances and other benefits to workers from the Philippines for nursing and other positions. The new package features a 12% in the basic salary and a 5% increase in the cost of living allowance and food allowance.

Aside from improved salaries, SFHP continues to offer free accomodation and transportation. SFHP is a non-placement fee facility, and has been a client of Abba for a number of years.

SFH is a 500-bed facility located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is the hospital for employees of the Security Forces and its dependents in Saudi Arabia.

FILIPINO NURSES IS BIGGEST GROUP OF NCLEX - RN TAKERS

Among internationally educated nurses, or nurses who finished their course outside the U.S the Filipino nurses comprise the biggest number of NCLEX exam-takers.

Starting from the NCSBN (National Council of State Board of Nursing), which gives the NCLEX exams, shows that for the year of 2007, there were 21, 499 Filipino nurses who took the exams, or 39.7% of the total internationally educated nurses. The Philippines was followed by India (5,370 takers), South Korea (1,906), Canada (888) and Cuba (673)

For First 6 months of 2008, the Philippines had 39.2% of the total

CONFAB HELD TO DISCUSS COMPETITIVENESS OF FILIPINO NURSES

About 250 people, representing at least 40 associations, attended the First Philippine Nursing Competitiveness Conference sponsored by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). The one-day conference, held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila,   tried to formulate strategies to address the competitiveness of Philippine nursing services.

The conference tackled issues on training, regulation, employment prospects in the Philippines and overseas, international migration, the NCLEX exams in Manila, Visa Screening for U.S. bound nurses, medical tourism, the country’s retirement program, global standards in education.

Among the speakers were representatives from NCLEX, the Department of Health, Philippine Nurses Association, Professional Regulation Commission, Board of Nursing, Intellectual Property Office, Association of Deans of Philippine College s of Nursing, and the National Institute of Health.
