>> VISA PROCESSING FOR U.S BOUND NURSES TO START MOVING

For some EB 3 visa applicants,  there’s going to be some movement.

The  U.S.  State  Department  thru  its  Visa  Bulletin  for  May  2008,  announced that  beginning  May  01,  2008,  the  NVC  (National  Visa  Bulletin)  will  start processing  those  applicants  with  priority  dates  of  March  01,  2006  and earlier. This  means  that  those nurses whose priority date falls on or before  March 01 2006 can expect  Embassy  interviews  upon  completion  of  their  packet 3 at NVC.

The  movement  in  the  priority  dates  benefits  applicants  from  China  and  the Philippines  to  a  greater  degree  than  applicants  from  Mexico  and  India.  For the  latter  two  countries,  those  with  priority  dates  of  November  2001  and earlier  will  be  processed  starting  May  2008.  That’s  4  years  behind  China and the Philippines.

>> NURSES FOR ABBA CLIENT CAN LEAVE FOR U.S.A. ON H1B VISA

Cambridge Healthcare, one of Abba’s U.S. based clients, has started interviewing nurse-applicants for a non-cap hospital in the U.S. This means that successful applicants will be processed on an H1B, or work visa.

As a non- cap facility, the hospital does not need to wait for April 01 in filing the H1B petition. That will considerably shorten the processing period to within5 months or less, from the approval of the nurse’s application with Abba.
The bulk of nurses going to the U.S. are usually processed on an EB 3 or immigrant visa. This qualifies the nurse for a green card visa, including her direct dependents but processing for the immigrant visa takes a long time, up to about 18 months.

With an H1B visa, the nurse can land in the U.S. earlier,  get employment with the H1B for 3 years, and extend the visa for another 3 years. Within this period, the nurse is expected to be able to convert her work  visa to permanent residency status.

To qualify for the work visa, the applicants must have passed the NCLEX and IELTS. Interviews are ongoing in Abba, and clients selection will be finalized with an overseas  phone interview by the client.

>> AT LEAST 80,000 TO TAKE NURSING BOARD EXAMS IN 2008

The PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) expects 80,000 to 100,000 examinees to take its two Nurse Licensure Exams in the year 2008.

The number of examinees  has steadily increased starting 2003, and is expected to further balloon up to 2010.

As a result , PRC has set earlier  deadline dates for  filing of the applications . For the June 1 and 2 exams, deadline for application is April 11, 2008. For the November 29 exam, deadline date is October 17.

The passing rate for the nursing licensure exams has averaged to about 49% in the last 10 years. On this basis, the country will have more than 40,000 new registered nurses by the end of 2008.
